Feed Sentinel

How the app works, how to set it up, and how to reach a human.
Setting it up
- Install the app from the Shopify App Store and approve the subscription.
- On the app page, paste the public HTTPS URL of your product feed (XML or TSV — the same URL you give Google Merchant Center) and the email address that should receive alerts.
- Press Save settings.
- Press Run a scan now to see the current state immediately.
After that the app scans once a day and emails you only when a mismatch appears that was not there the day before.
Before you start: you need a public feed URL
This app compares an existing product feed against your store — it does not generate one. You need a feed app that publishes your products as a public HTTPS XML or TSV file (the same URL you would give Google Merchant Center).
If you publish to Google through Shopify's built-in Google & YouTube channel, that pushes over an API and produces no public file, so there is nothing for this app to read. In that case add a feed app that exposes a URL, or use the free checker to test any other store.
Limits
- Up to 2000 feed rows are checked per scan. If your feed has more, the app page and your emails tell you how many were left out.
- We read up to 6 MB of your feed in one pass. A feed larger than that is checked from the beginning as far as we can read.
- Each feed row is matched to the exact variant its link names (
?variant=). A row that names no variant is matched to the product instead, and on a multi-variant product its price, availability and GTIN differences are reported as amber rather than red, because they may reflect a different variant. - Rows priced in a currency other than your store's currency are not price-compared; they are counted and reported.
Frequently asked
What happens on the first scan?
It records a baseline and emails you a one-time summary of where you stand today. After that you only hear from us when something new breaks — otherwise day one's backlog would repeat forever.
Something is broken — will I know?
Yes. If a scan fails (feed URL unreachable, authorization lost, subscription lapsed) the app page shows the error and how many days it has been failing, and we email you once when monitoring stops entirely. Silence means the scan ran and found nothing new among the rows it checked. It does not mean your whole feed was checked — the app page always shows how much of it we got through.
Why didn't I get an email today?
Because nothing new broke. Unchanged problems are deliberately not re-sent — a daily digest of the same issues trains you to ignore it.
Does "Run a scan now" affect my alerts?
No. Manual scans are read-only and never move the alert baseline. If a problem is visible on screen, the next daily scan will still email you about it.
What counts as a mismatch?
Reported per row: price, availability, product image, and a GTIN that disagrees with your store barcode — plus feed items that do not exist in your store, and items whose product is not published to the Online Store. Title differences are reported only when the feed title is not your product title (a variant suffix such as "— Large" is expected and is not flagged). GTIN is cross-checked precisely against the Admin API for installed shops; rows where only one side has a GTIN are counted and summarised rather than flagged one by one.
Where do I find my feed URL?
It is whatever URL your feed app or Google Merchant Center pulls from. It must be reachable over HTTPS without a login.
How do I cancel?
Press Cancel subscription on the app page. Billing stops immediately and daily scans stop with it; your settings stay in place so you can resubscribe later. Uninstalling the app also cancels the subscription and deletes your data.
